The Horticultural Society have 2 shredders which have proved very popular and easy to use. They are ideal for shredding hedge clippings and shrub prunings and other smallish material – though they are not wood chippers and so cannot handle larger items.

The material to be shredded should preferably still be green. Once shredded, the output can be composted or else used as a mulch to be spread on top of the soil to keep weeds down and preserve soil moisture.

One shredder is housed on the Green and the other on Broad Street. On joining you would be shown how to use the shredder as well as receiving written notes on its use and safety instructions. It would be your responsibility to collect and return the shredder, which can be wheeled shortish distances or carried in the boot of a car.

If you are interested in sharing the use of these shredders you must be a member of the Horticultural Society and will need to join our Shredder Group. To do so please contact me either by email at martinbarker@ntlworld.com or by phone on 836756. There is a membership agreement to sign and a charge of £12 for use as many times as you wish in 2010. The charge is to cover servicing and maintenance.
