Dear All
You may have seen this on the front page of the Surrey Ad last week. It's an
application to build mast and base equipment in Worplesdon outside 165 Park
Barn Drive - this end of Park Barn Drive is in Worplesdon - not Westboro'.
If you want to know what it will look like there are 2 opposite the Hospital
by Tesco - they are not attractive and do have safety risks when sited close
to housing & people. This site is right outside No 165 and will cause serious
sight line problems for people who live there and use that car park - not least
the impact on visibility by the Playing field.
I hope you will be able to join us in objecting to this unwelcome and unnecessary
application. The WBDRA objection is below - please feel free to cut & paste/adapt
as you wish. Also I hope some of the Protest Group who saw off the mast application
by St Josephs school will be in copy of this - can you help out here?
As always we don't
have much time so do please e-mail your objection urgently to: planningenquiries@guildford.gov.uk
Thanks
David

Location: Pavement adjoining 165 Park Barn Drive, Worplesdon.
WBDRA wishes to object to this application - our principal points of objection are:
(1) The siting of the mast and its ancillary equipment is on the brow of a hill with a difficult bend in the road where visibility is not good. The location is already an accident black spot.
(2) The Base Station Equipment will impede the view of cars exiting the car park area.
(3) The Mast/Base Station will be opposite a playing field where children are often encountered running into the road to retrieve footballs etc. Anything which obscures the sight line of traffic thus endangering the lives of children & pedestrians must be rejected.
(4) More fundamentally , why do we need an O2 mast in this part of Guildford? 02 users (the writer included) enjoy perfect reception on our 02 mobiles & handheld devices. So there is no real technical need for it to be located there at all.
(5) The Mast & Base Station will be sited opposite a well-used popular amenity & open space. Why ruin the outlook of the only Green Area in Park Barn Drive? (6) A lot of Park Barn Drive houses are in private ownership - the siting of a Telecom mast hardly enhances the value of those properties and what with the appalling road surfaces, acute traffic & on-street parking problems, the value of homes is surely going to fall dramatically.
WBDRA calls for this application to be refused.
