Update and Christmas greetings

Dear All

Firstly, many thanks to all of you who made it to our Meeting earlier in the month. We had a very good turnout which included our local PC, Janet Ville, our current & past MPs as well as several local councillors! It's good to see that we have generated so much public interest in our first year.

Herewith a brief seasonal update:

Neighbourhood Watch - we will deliver window stickers around Broadacres after Boxing Day, and at the same time doing a survey for signs on lamp-posts.

Crime Prevention - At this time of year, the Police always us remind of this: don't leave presents on display near windows; don't leave shopping or personal items on display in your car; make sure your sheds, garages, bicycles & cars are secure; leave a light on when you go out; don't answer the door to strangers - that is, apart from Santa on Christmas Eve and he won't mind if you ask him for his ID!

Fencing in Oakfields - I've not met anyone yet who's pleased with what GBC have done. The actual Security fence & gate on the Allotment side is just what was needed BUT the low wooden rail affair is a very poor and inadequate replacement for the previous wooden boarded fence which provided a good screen on both sides. If you're unhappy with this (and quite a number of you are) please phone Alison Davidson at GBC or e-mail her on: alison.davidson @guildford.gov.uk

Planning Applications - there doesn't seem to be quiet time ever for these. But we are aware of serial applicants who try and sneak things in at this time of year hoping that because it's Christmas, no-one will notice. It's lucky that we have some vigilant members and thanks to them for flagging up these applications.

Consultation on the Allotment Site - I know quite a number of you have sent forms back to GBC and thanks for doing that. We have quite a number of forms in stock (complete with easy to follow instructions!) so if you would like one, let me know - I can e-mail one to you or get one delivered. We have until the end of January to get these forms in to GBC - so please do make sure you have your say on the future of our local site. Details and form filling advice are on our website (see below for address)

And finally - on behalf of the WBDRA Committee, I thank you all for your continued interest and support and wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Best wishes
David
