Dear All,

Thanks to a grant from Guildford Borough Council, the Wood Street Village Horticultural Society has become the owner of 2 Viking GE250 Garden Shredders.

I would like to emphasise that these are shredders and not wood chippers. They can be used for shredding hedge clippings, shrub prunings and small tree branches (with a diameter of up to 1.2 inches (30 mm)). They cannot be used for branches larger than this.

The material to be shredded should preferably still be green, especially the larger stuff. Once shredded, the material can be composted or else used as a mulch to be spread on top of the soil to keep weeds down and preserve soil moisture.

If you are interested in sharing the use of one of these shredders you will need to join our Shredder Group. The membership agreement you would be required to sign if you wish to join is included below as both a Word document and a PDF file. The charge for joining the Shredder Group will be £10. This will entitle the member to use the shredder any number of times (subject to availability) until 31/12/08. The cost is to cover servicing and maintenance. The charge for 2009 will be determined in the light of this year's experience. If you are not already a member of the Horticultural Society you will also need to join (at a cost of £3 per family).

On joining you would also receive a set of shredder instructions and safety instructions. It would be your responsibility to collect and return the shredder. I will house one and the other will be housed by David Hypher on the Green. If you would like to see the shredder working or have any other queries, please contact me by email or phone on 836756. My address is Vine Cottage, 139 Broad Street.
